AllSorts is still the session that we really need more coaches for, so if you're thinking of coming to a KEEN session this week, make it AllSorts. It's really popular with athletes, so it would be brilliant to have lots of coaches too so we can make sure all the athletes are paired one-to-one with a coach. The free coach to Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre leaves from the corner of St. Giles and Beaumont Street, (just in front of the Taylorian) at 1.10pm, picks up from the bus stop next to St Clare's school on Banbury Road at 1.15pm, and from the Gypsy Lane campus bus stop at 1.30pm. Alternatively, you can meet us at the leisure centre for 1.45pm. The coach will do a return journey when the session ends at 5pm, and we should be back in the city centre by 5:30pm in time for a trip to a local pub.
This week at GrEAT it's the much-anticipated termly pub trip! If you fancy spending even more time in the pub and having a go at the KEEN pub quiz then meet us at the usual time of 7.30pm in The Cape of Good Hope. Don't forget to bring ID - as we're in a pub everyone will need to have proof that they are over 18. For those of you who haven't been before, The Cape of Good Hope is situated on The Plain which is the roundabout near Madgalen College where St Clements's Street, Cowley Road and Iffley Road meet (right on the corner where Cowley Road and Iffley Road come off the roundabout). The session will finish at the usual time of 9.30pm when we'll go (or stay) in the pub. All new volunteers get a free drink!
There will be a FREE Learning Disability Awareness workshop at Oxford Brookes University on Wednesday 26th November. The workshop is run by Oxfordshire Community and Voluntary Action (OCVA) and the aim of the session is to increase awareness of the needs and the potential of people with a learning disability and to see the positive impact volunteering can have on their lives. The workshop (which includes lunch!) will run from 10:00am to 12:30pm at the STAX room, Helena Kennedy Building, Oxford Brookes University, Headington Hill Campus, Oxford, OX3 0BT. There is limited parking at the Headington Hill campus however it is well served by bus services. If you would like to attend please contact Carolyn Taylor on 01865 251946 or email her at admin@ocva.org.uk by the end of Thursday 20th November.
Here is a message from James Scott, VP Activities & Development
The Students' Union runs an event in partnership with the University called
'No Mince Pies' every year. This event is free for all the senior members of
the community, where they are entertained by you, the societies, and given
light refreshments.
This year we're holding the event on the 28th November, from 1pm to 5pm in
the Students' Union Venue, and we want to be able to provide lots of
entertainment and make this year another success.
Your society will not need to pay for anything, as the Students'
Union/University will be handling the costs. In previous years we have had
Jazz, Fortune Players, and CHAOS perform. This year I want to allow the
diverse and international societies to do something :).
If your society is available to perform, then please let me know AS SOON AS
POSSIBLE, as we need to send invitations out urgently.
Just making everyone aware.
If you are interested in performing at this event, let me know either by email or at a workshop.
It would be great to get something small together.
This year the KEEN volunteers' Christmas Party is going to be held at Ha!Ha! bar. We're meeting at 7.30pm (to give everyone time to go home after the athlete's Christmas Party) for a 2/3 course meal. The meal will cost £24.95 for a 3 course meal or £17.95 for 2 courses (chose a main and either a starter or a dessert from the list below). We're currently trying to make it cheaper, and drinks are on KEEN all night (well until we have spent all their money anyway!!) So all the more reason to come! ***If you are going to come you must tell me or Rachel by Sunday 23rd (this Sunday) with your meal preferences) as we have to pre-order the food.***
For those of you who don't know where it is, Ha!Ha! bar is on the edge of the Castle complex, right next to the Westgate Centre on the road that goes to the car park at the back towards the ice rink (if you can't find it on the day call the KEEN mobile on 07847 110371 and Rhian will give you directions). We will be meeting at Ha Ha! at 7.30pm for a 2/3 course Christmas dinner and then staying for drinks until we run out of KEEN money!!
